While trunked radio has been an overwhelming success, all trunked 2-way radio systems share a common problem: they are difficult and expensive to monitor and record using traditional methods. The traditional way to record is to "de-trunk" the talk groups and then record each talk group on a dedicated channel of a multi-channel logging recorder.  Hardware must be provided to capture and then extract each specific talk group ($2000 per talk group) and then record it, one talk group per channel ($700-$1000 per recording channel). This method has been used for lack of a "better way." Fortunately, that "better way" has arrived.
